Macro Photography: The World Up Close


Class Description

Join photographer Curtis Juliber for a close up look at the exciting world of macro photography, and a close examination of your personal photographic style. Discover new ways of finding, seeing, and capturing beautiful photographic images by moving closer and revealing detail. In this in-depth workshop we use an intimate approach to photograph what’s before us and create a unique, individual, and personal rendition of the subject.
 
Participants learn the art of “close up”, or macro, photography by exploring artistic themes found in both the natural world and man-made objects.
 
We develop a new perspective and eye for the simplest everyday items as well the natural and how to make these unlikely subjects.
 
Through a variety of techniques, we master ways to enhance and capture the details that craft intimate interpretations of form that result in creative images.
 
We learn techniques including backgrounds and lens choice, practice good visual awareness, and most importantly, focus on how to frame a subject.
 
We explore a series of exercises and critiques focusing on composition, color versus black-and-white, and light and texture, assist us as we find ways to express our own personal vision.
 
Working both spontaneously and meticulously, we look at abstraction and how to interpret a subject in a variety of ways.

What you will need:

• Digital SLR

• Macro lens

• Sturdy tripod

• Small reflector or tin foil

• Shutter release cable

About the Instructor

Instructor Photo

Curtis Juliber: New York City native Curtis Juliber previously worked for 16 years at Apple Computer in various sales and marketing roles, working with many Twin Cities's ad agencies and publishing organizations. He has an MBA from Minnesota State University and a BSE from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Curtis has been working with digital images since 1994 and is always investigating software technologies to enhance his digital darkroom.
