New! Lightroom 5: The Photographer's Best Friend

Class Description

Adobe Lightroom 5 is an incredibly powerful tool for photographers of all levels. In this two-day comprehensive workshop you’ll learn the ins-and-outs of proper Lightroom 5 workflow to help you strengthen and streamline your photographic output.

Steve Bye begins by explaining how Lightroom 5 handles files, then takes you through importing and organizing image files from our cameras and hard drives. Lightroom’s powerful organizational tools make it possible to sort through thousands of images with ease, and a principal goal of this workshop is to teach you how to navigate this program’s essential element. Using Lightroom’s system of Collections, Keywords, Flags, Stars, and Color Labels, you gain a solid understanding of how to simply manage photographs stored on your home computers.

From organization the class moves onto Lightroom 5’s powerful developing tools. Using the Develop module, we make adjustments ranging from correcting exposure to creating vignetting, in order to enhance the quality of our images. Will also demonstrates how to synchronize Develop settings across groups of images in order to streamline your workflow. We wrap up by learning how to output images as prints, files to send to a printer, or a new feature with Lightroom 5, books.

Class Requirements

The class is hands-on, with each student using their own iMac computer. Students will practice each concept during class to make sure they understand it. The class is taught on Apple computers but, once within the Lightroom application, the functionality and user interface are nearly identical to Windows. Windows users will easily learn the few Mac computer functions that are required. Lunch will be provided each day by the Mpls Photo Center. It will give students a chance to relax and talk with each other and the instructor about their interest in photography.

About the Instructor

Instructor Photo

Steve Bye: After shutting down his wet darkroom many years ago, Steve's interest in photography was rekindled when the first photo inkjet printers became available. Though their quality at the time was not very good, digital photography using inkjet printers seemed worth investigating. Now, fifteen years later, Steve is an Adobe Certified Instructor of Photoshop. Steve's strength as a teacher is in explaining difficult concepts in easily understandable ways, a skill learned while at Hewlett-Packard as a trainer, engineer, and R&D project manager.
