New Photoshop CC Part 1 & 2: The World's Best Image Editor

Class Description

Focusing on the most important features of the new Adobe Photoshop CC, this two-part workshop demonstrates how this powerful program can be used to satisfy all the requirements of a photographer. During the workshop, Steve Bye guides participants through the digital workflow process that Photoshop is recognized for.

In Photoshop 1 you'll learn to use Adobe’s newest Photoshop, version CC, to get organized and efficient using Photoshop’s Bridge application, and to optimize the appearance of your images using Camera Raw. Most important - Camera Raw works with RAW files and JPGs. There is no need to learn one tool for RAW and another for JPGs. Camera Raw is the tool of choice for JPGs too.

Photoshop 1 starts with Photoshop’s Bridge utility. It is the key to efficiently download, rate, organize and manage images. It’s not just a file viewer. Next, participants process images in Photoshop’s Camera Raw. It is the best and most efficient tool for applying the most common image adjustments, for RAW and JPG. Steve will examine the pros and cons of working with RAW and JPEG file formats. You will learn the best techniques and shortcuts for image enhancing, simple retouching, white balancing, color adjusting, black-and-white conversion, and initial sharpening. Camera Raw even has an Adjustment Brush for applying localized corrections, such as dodging and burning and localized contrast adjustments.

Photoshop 2 addresses the adjustments that cannot be done with Camera Raw. It’s all about using layers, adjustments layers and the all-important layer masks to create amazing composites and localized adjustments. Read the Photoshop 2 class description to learn more about the Photoshop 2 class.

Lightroom users will want to take the Lightroom class first, then skip Photoshop 1 and just take Photoshop 2. The skills taught in Photoshop 1 would be performed in Lightroom rather than Photoshop. Passing images from Lightroom to Photoshop for further processing with layers is very simple.

Using sample photographs, participants practice processing images through final output. Participants come away from the workshop with Photoshop skills that enable them to independently process and optimize their imagery and photographic vision.

We want to offer classes in the latest version of software, Photoshop CC, that is available. "If you do own CS5, or CS6,  very little has changed and you should be able to do 95% of the class content in either version."

Photoshop Part 2
Photoshop is famous for the power of layers. They are the key to compositing images and making extremely localized adjustments. The Photoshop Part 2 class goes into detail on layers, adjustment layers, and the fundamentally-important layer mask, You will use layers to create composites and make adjustments to very specific areas of an image. The majority of time in Photoshop 2 is spent on layers.

Photoshop also has very powerful image retouching tools. The Photoshop 2 class teaches the best retouching tools for removing distractions and image blemishes. Additionally, the Photoshop 2 class teach how crop, size, and sharpen images for print or the web.

Combining hands-on demonstrations with step-by-step instruction, Steve Bye provides participants with practical photographic applications for working with Photoshop.

About the Instructor

Instructor Photo

Steve Bye: After shutting down his wet darkroom many years ago, Steve's interest in photography was rekindled when the first photo inkjet printers became available. Though their quality at the time was not very good, digital photography using inkjet printers seemed worth investigating. Now, fifteen years later, Steve is an Adobe Certified Instructor of Photoshop. Steve's strength as a teacher is in explaining difficult concepts in easily understandable ways, a skill learned while at Hewlett-Packard as a trainer, engineer, and R&D project manager.
