Snapshots on the Serengeti
Class Description
See lions and other African wildlife as captured by hundreds of hidden cameras and through the eyes of a world-class photographer. These spectacular images -- both candid shots taken as part of the Snapshot Serengeti citizen-science project and stunning photos taken by long-time lion researcher Daniel Rosengren -- offer a unique window into the private lives of African wildlife. Craig Packer, the world’s leading expert on the iconic but endangered African lion, will talk about his team's lion conservation efforts in conjunction with Earth Day 2016Craig Packer is the world’s leading expert on the iconic, endangered African lion. He spent decades leading research for the world-renowned Serengeti Lion Project and published works that advanced lion conservation and molded international policy in the interest of protecting lions from habitat loss, human-lion conflict and sport hunting. Dr. Packer is a professor in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, and director of the Lion Center at the University of Minnesota.
Daniel Rosengren first entered Africa on a bicycle in 2005, having embarked from his native Sweden and eventually cycling all the way to Cape Town. Daniel joined the Serengeti lion project in 2010 and became a mainstay of the research program until 2015. He now serves as the official photographer of the Frankfurt Zoological Society and frequently travels from Europe to Sumatra, Peru and Zambia, among many other exotic destinations.

Craig Packer:
Craig Packer is the world’s leading expert on the iconic, endangered African lion. He spent decades leading research for the world-renowned Serengeti Lion Project and published works that advanced lion conservation and molded international policy in the interest of protecting lions from habitat loss, human-lion conflict and sport hunting. Dr. Packer is a professor in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, and director of the Lion Center at the University of Minnesota.
