Lighting Boot Camp

Instructors: Martin Berglin, Kyle Camerer

Class Description

Lighting Boot Camp is a comprehensive course of four 2½ hour sessions in studio and location lighting and its application to product, editorial, fashion and portrait photography. Students will learn all aspects of studio lighting and utilize that training, as well as on-site location and production training, while in the field and on location.  Half of the class is devoted to product and editorial photography, and the other half for portrait and fashion photography.  The class has studio lighting and location sessions where individual skills are learned and applied to unusual locations that stretch the limits of both natural and artificial light sources. After four sessions, students will have a broad range of lighting skills that will serve most all applications of photography and the understanding of light. Lighting Boot Camp is held in the Mpls Photo Center’s 2,800-square foot Lighting Lab and heads outside for one session.

All lighting equipment will be provided. Digital SLR cameras are recommended for instant feedback, but film cameras are most welcomed. Students should bring their own cameras. 10 megapixel Mpls Photo Center Digital SLRs are available to students for use during the class hours for an additional $50 fee for the four - 2½ hour classes.

Class Requirements

Prior experience with digital cameras is helpful.  Students should bring their own cameras, but 10-megapixel Olympus Digital SLR cameras are available from the Mpls Photo Center for $25 per class.

Digital SLR cameras are recommended for instant feedback, but film cameras are most welcomed.
