Session 1: I Witness - Exploring Your World as a Photojournalist-Introduction to Research, Finding Subjects and Making Contact

Class Description

In Session 1 of this four part Workshop, Peterson will show his work and talk about the process of finding his subjects and getting close enough to make meaningful photographs. Based on this introduction and talk, students who choose to continue with Sessions 2-4 of the Workshop will learn how to do research, finding subjects and making contact.Students will be asked to find three subject ideas they would like to further explore and develop as a documentary project before session 2.

Topics that will be discussed and demonstrated:

• Doing research, finding subjects and making contact.

Class Requirements

Only the interest in documentary and photojournalism photography and further developing their skills in story telling through a single or multiple images.

While digital media is the most common form of photography for journalists today, film cameras are an alternative, with film being processed and printed in the Center's darkroom labs.
