New Photoshop CC Part 1 & 2: The World's Best Image Editor

Class Description

In just one weekend you'll learn to use Adobe’s newest Photoshop, version CC, to optimize the appearance of your images using Camera Raw, remove distractions with the Content-Aware Healing Brush, and size and sharpen images for print or the web. Additionally, you will exoerience the power of layers, Photoshop's most powerful tool.

Focusing on the essential features of Adobe Photoshop CC, this workshop demonstrates how this powerful program can be used to satisfy all the requirements of a photographer. During the workshop, we guide participants through the digital workflow process that Photoshop is recognized for.

Starting with Photoshop’s Bridge utility, participants explore all the important features it offers, from organizing and managing images. Next, participants process images in Photoshop’s Camera Raw Converter, and examine the pros and cons of working with RAW and JPEG file formats. Steve Bye covers the best techniques and shortcuts for image enhancing, retouching, white balancing, color adjusting, black-and-white conversion, sharpening, and working with selections. Last, we will show the power of layers to create composites and make adjustments to very specific areas of an image.

Combining hands-on demonstrations with step-by-step instruction, Pat Carney provides participants with practical photographic applications for working with Photoshop.

Using sample photographs, participants practice processing images through final output. Participants come away from the workshop with Photoshop skills that enable them to independently process and optimize their imagery and photographic vision.

We offer classes in the latest version of Photoshop.

Pat Carney: Our resident Lightroom expert Pat Carney has been a working member of the Minneapolis creative community for over four decades. He began his career as a photographer and transitioned into careers as a graphic designer, creative director, and agency leadership.

He first studied photography with master photographer, Roger M. Iverson and under Pulitzer Prize winner Colburn Hvidsten III.

Pat spent seven years at Jostens as a designer and workshop specialist. He participated in more than 120 workshops a year, including regular presentations at Columbia University, Louisiana State University and the University of Massachusetts.

Carney also created large format multi-image presentations at Calliope Productions for corporate clients such as Pratt & Whitney, Miller Beer and Control Data. This was followed by several years work in animated film for television at Minneapolis-based Lamb & Co.

In 1986 he founded The Carney Group, a rich blend of diverse creative talents with a client base including Public Radio International, The British Broadcasting Company, The Donaldson Companies, DoALL Saws, CHS Company, Tremendous Entertainment Company, Parker Rosen Law Firm, and numerous radio programs such as This American Life, What’d Ya Know and BBC’s Newshour.

Pat has recently returned to his roots. While his design practice still services a few select clients, his concentration is on photography. He is part of an artist group called Art for Good, a group of artists brought together by Herman Milligan, a well known Minneapolis art administrator, which concentrates on raising money for deserving non-profit organizations while not asking artists to give their work away.

Pat'sart photographs havebeen accepted in many exhibitions, including a three person exhibition, and competitive exhibitions at the MPLS Photo Center, as well as six acceptances at the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition.

He has held emeritus teaching positions for courses at College of Visual Arts and St. Cloud State University. Pat has also held several board positions including The Minnesota Chapter of American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), and 3 years as president of the Northside Arts Collective.
