Pixels and IPAs (The MicroBrew Tourtorial)

Class Description

This is the happy hour version of our most popular new workshop. We start at 5:30 pm, do a 1/2 hour of classroom and then hit the streets to sample the latest offerings at Indeed, Bauhaus, and/or 612 breweries. Photo instruction and shooting all the while! Everybody leaves with a 13X19 print of their own. Come "dial into" one of the best methods of creating great photographs with iPhones and other Smart phones. We'll work on composition, creativity, judging hops, "seeing" light and printing.

Tourtorial Fee: $95

Photographers will spend time using their iPhone's and Smartphones canvassing the "Golden Triangle" of brew pubs in Northeast Minneapolis, all within a few blocks of the Mpls Photo Center. Beverages and snacks provided. All while seeking strong visual moments using a variety of techniques designed for making artistic photos with your Smartphone.

The purpose of this workshop is to develop the visual instincts inside you and develop the skills to take creative photos, anytime, anywhere with your Smartphone in hand.

In the end, photographers will have been introduced to a new way of seeing the world through the simplicity of their phone.

Everyone from beginners to the most experienced photographers will enjoy this workshop. Carrying nothing but your Smartphone. Expect yourself to see freely without the confines of carrying tons of gear to accomplish a unique visual journey.

We conclude at 9:00 p.m.

About the Instructor

Jeff Harrington: Jeff is the Executive Director at the Mpls Photo Center. He worked as a professional photographer early in his career before evolving into film-making and video production. He has worked in advertising and digital media as an executive producer and director. Jeff has been an exhibiting artist these past 30 years in both group exhibitions and one man shows. His emphasis these last few years has been on color "street photography." Jeff enjoys teaching others, and sharing his approach to urban and street photography with his students and MPC Members. Jeff has degrees from SCSU in art, journalism, and marketing.
