Class Description
If you're interested in an in depth program from Beginning DSLR through Digital Printing, this series of 8 evening sessions in photography education is for you. You’ll learn camera settings, exposure, depth of field, capturing motion, composition principles, image editing using Lightroom, and finish with digital printing. Through handouts, visual displays, hands-on exercises in class and weekly assignments these principles and techniques will be explained and reviewed.Camera Settings
We begin discussing the main functions of your digital camera, how and why to change them. Bring your camera and fully charged batteries.

Exposure
An introduction to exposing an image correctly. We will discover how to take control of the camera and achieve desired and predictable results. Be prepared to print 5 -7 images for review.

Camera Control
We will continue to take control of our camera to achieve the desired depth of field and and subject sharpness using aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Be prepared to print 5 -7 images for review.

Composition
A discussion of what makes a good image, basic composition elements and how to incorporate them into an image. We will introduce additional tools to make your creative vision of a scene, a reality. As a group, we will critique selected images each week.

Image Editing
An introduction into digital workflow using Lightroom. We will rename, edit, keyword, tag and rate images to easily identify the best and make locating files in the future easy. We will cover a basic workflow for processing your images and how to locally and globally edit your image.

Digital Printing
An introduction into preparing your digital files for printing. Each student will be able to print five images.

About the Instructor
Jeff Harrington:
Jeff is the Executive Director at the Mpls Photo Center. He worked as a professional photographer early in his career before evolving into film-making and video production. He has worked in advertising and digital media as an executive producer and director. Jeff has been an exhibiting artist these past 30 years in both group exhibitions and one man shows. His emphasis these last few years has been on color "street photography." Jeff enjoys teaching others, and sharing his approach to urban and street photography with his students and MPC Members. Jeff has degrees from SCSU in art, journalism, and marketing.
