Pet Photography Basics

Class Description

This is a beginner’s course for pet owners who are interested in taking better, more engaging photos of their pets.

Sarah Beth, of Sara Beth Pet Photography will discuss topics including how she works with animals, what she looks for when setting up a shot, how to get great images of black dogs, and best-practices for camera settings. We will be working indoors with window light and typical furniture found in a home. Laska Parrow, Fetch Dog Training, a professional trainer, will be bringing in 2 dogs for students to photograph, and we will review and critique the students’images.

While we will only be photographing dogs in the class, the techniques will apply to cats and other pets as well. This would be useful for those who foster rescue animals, and want to provide better images for their adoption listings.

This is a basic course for non-professional, hobbyist photographers and pet owners.

Laska has been training assistance dogs since 2000, and began pet dog training in 2003. She has a passion for showing her dogs in obedience and agility competitions, as well as doing therapy work with them. Laska is CPDT-KA certified.

Laska’s passion for animals also led her to become a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) and start to work at the humane society. She currently enjoys many activities with her three large dogs and two cats.

Sarah Beth Ernhart: Minneapolis pet photographer, Sarah Beth, specializes in distinctive, artful images of your pets, both in studio and on location. With a background in fine art and design, an eye for composition and a loving rapport with animals, she captures expression and personality in fun, engaging images.

Having grown up on a farm, she's comfortable around most any creatures, and animals tend to warm up to her quickly. These connections with her subjects, along with her own quiet energy, are important aspects in producing natural, relaxed photographs.

Seeing a growing need for owners to honor a terminally ill or dying pet, Sarah Beth developed her signature Joy SessionĀ®. These special sessions are an opportunity to create beautiful, lasting memories before they pass.

Dedicated to supporting the pet community, Sarah Beth donates her time and a percentage of every session to local rescues and nonprofits.
